Oct 19 Superintendent Update Graphic

October 19, 2022

Good Afternoon Warren Students, Families, and Staff,

We have a couple of important announcements for the week of October 19.

Please remember that tomorrow is our District-wide Parent/Caregiver Teacher Conference Day. To accommodate our teachers' and families' time to meet, students do not attend school, and this is not an eLearning day. We appreciate your time and participation in this very important relationship.

As a valued partner, we are asking for your input on how we are doing with school climate, our communication, and meeting the needs of our students and families. The family / caregiver survey is now open until October 30. Linked here are the survey links for each school. Links can also be found in each school’s weekly newsletter. We appreciate your valuable time and feedback.

In 2018, Senate Bill 355 was passed and requires all public schools to provide age-appropriate research and evidence-based instruction on child abuse education and prevention to students in kindergarten through grade 12.

Beginning next week and in the first two weeks of November for our high school students, our school counselors will deliver lessons in child abuse education and prevention.

Students in grades K-5 will receive the Second Steps child protection program. These lessons prioritize personal boundaries and a student’s right to have their boundaries respected by others.

Students in grades 6-12, will receive the Monique Burr Foundation Teen Safety Matters protection program. Lessons will be shared that empower our youth with information and strategies to prioritize personal boundaries and a student’s right to have their boundaries respected by others. Lessons will also help students, recognize and respond appropriately to child abuse, exploitation, and digital dangers.

School counselors will remind all students that trusted adults are available to help with their safety. If you have any questions or wish to review either of the curricula, please reach out to your building principal.

Warren Central High School is hosting a College Fair and Financial Planning Night tonight from 5:30 to 8:00. High school students and families are invited to attend to learn more about area colleges, universities, and the military branches. At 6 pm, there will be a college planning session hosted by INvestEd. Please park in lot 4 and enter through doors 25 and 26.

October 17-21, we will celebrate Transportation Appreciation Week! Thank you to all of the Warren Township Transportation Department for going the extra mile for kids! Please help us appreciate our transportation team by sharing a compliment or positive note!

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the outstanding Principals, Assistant Principals, Deans, and Directors we have in our MSD Warren Township schools. As we celebrate Principal Appreciation month, please help me in sharing your appreciation for our school and program leaders throughout the District.

Enjoy the rest of your week, and thank you for your continued investment in our students, staff, and schools.
